Member Spotlight:
The Slaymaker Family
Caring. Honesty. Respect. Responsibility. These core values of the YMCA are personified by the Slaymaker family. Laura, Sam, Trip and Virgil can frequently be found putting these values into action in classes, on the courts and fields, and in the pool at the Lancaster Family YMCA.
Laura, a lifelong member of Ys, is actively involved in all aspects at the Lancaster Family YMCA. Whether she’s swimming, working out in the wellness center, taking group exercise classes, or coaching youth soccer, you’ll find her in a leadership position. Last season she inspired the soccer players to design and create posters about the YMCA’s core values, which were displayed at the Y. Laura also shares her talents by serving on various committees at the Lancaster Family YMCA.
Like Laura, Sam stays busy at the Y by taking classes, swimming, working out in the wellness center, and helping with the soccer team. Sam has also served as a parent volunteer for the Lancaster Lightning, the Y’s swim team. When it’s time to relax and rejuvenate their bodies, Sam and Laura enjoy the massage therapy services at the Y.
The Lancaster Family YMCA is an important part of sons Trip and Virgil’s childhoods. They have been on the Lancaster Y Lightning Swim Team, have taken taekwondo, and are active members of the soccer team. This fall they’ll venture into the Youth Fit Zone, a program that focuses on the health and wellness of children. Both Trip and Virgil have attended the day and resident programs at Camp Shand for years, and are looking forward to attending Creepy Camp this October with their soccer buddies.
The Lancaster Family YMCA thanks the Slaymakers for all their dedication and is proud to shine the spotlight on this most inspiring family.
