From the DirectorDear friends, With the help of our excellent staff and your excellent imagination, you can spend your day climbing Mt. Everest, canoeing the Amazon, competing in the Olympics, painting a masterpiece, "roughing it" in darkest Africa, or starring in a movie. Each day at Camp Shand will bring new challenges and the chance for you to have the summer of a lifetime! Camp Shand is owned and operated by the Lancaster Family YMCA, a name known and trusted since 1851. Our commitment to safety is demonstrated by our accreditation through the American Camping Association, the leader in setting and maintaining camping standards. Camp Shand was also voted best day camp in the Lancaster Newspaper's Readers Choice Awards! Our programs center on the philosophy of treating all living things and handling all situations with Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility - the YMCA core values. Throughout your camper's stay with us, he/she will come to better understand these meaningful words, through activities and group dynamics that only summer camp can provide. Our motto of "I'm Third" puts all of this into practice in a simple yet significant way. It means to put your belief system first, others around you second, and yourself third. YMCA Camp Shand provides these value-based programs, along with a mountain of fun! We look forward to seeing you this summer! Chris Smith |
