What Makes Us Different?

What makes this swim team different?

The Lancaster Family YMCA is committed to coaching participants to become not only better swimmers, but better people.

What makes the YMCA different than other local clubs?
• The oldest competitive swim team in Lancaster County!
• The tradition of YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility sets us apart.
• The focus of our program is to educate swimmers on stroke mechanics, practice habits, teamwork, and other skills that allow children to achieve.

What leagues does the YMCA participate in?
• We are joining a newly formed all YMCA dual meet league this season called YSCAP.
• We also participate in a number of YMCA invitational meets.
• We will offer the option for swimmers to be a member of the United States Swimming League.
• We are a YMCA focused team and swimmers are able to qualify and compete in YMCA District, State, and National competitions.

Practice Levels

Practice Level Descriptions
Practice levels are subject to change with progress throughout the season.

Level 1 practice is generally for swimmers 6-8 years old but placement is also based on skill level. Children who are under the age of 10 and have never participated on a swim team before will be placed in level 1 initially. Swimmers who attend level 1 practices are expected to attend practices 2-3 times per week.

Level 2
Level 2 practice is generally for swimmers 9-10 years old but placement is also based on skill level. Swimmers who attend level 2 practices are expected to attend practices 3-4 times per week.

Level 3
Level 3 practice is generally for swimmers 11-12 years old but placement is also based on skill level. Swimmers who attend level 3 practices are expected to attend practices 3-4 times per week.

Level 4
Level 4 practice is generally for swimmers 13-18 years old but placement is also based on skill level. Swimmers who attend level 4 practices are expected to attend practices 4-5 times per week. If a swimmer is a member of high school swimming, there commitment may be less during the length of that season.

YMCA Swim Team Practice Options

For returning YMCA swimmers: please print this form and choose a practice level option for your child. One should be filled out for each swimmer. This form should be handed in to the coaching staff at the first information parent's meeting.

New YMCA swimmers will be assigned partice levels after the skill try out dates and options may be chosen at that time. All practice option sheets should be handed in by Thursday, September 1st to Coach Nikki.
