Biography:
Jeffrey S. Kenderdine
Chief Executive Officer
Lancaster Family YMCA
Jeffrey S. Kenderdine's professional career may best be described as a true calling. Born and raised in Lancaster County, Jeffrey attended Manheim Twp. High School where his devotion to health and wellness began through his love for the sport of wrestling. He pursued this interest while attending the University of Delaware. Coming from a lineage of educators, Jeffrey's degree work initially focused on teaching with a BS in Health & Physical Education. As he progressed in his studies, he found that his interest shifted toward the clinical and performance side of athletics. He then ventured into graduate studies at the UofD in Exercise Science. His true passion, however, was just emerging.
To support his graduate studies, Jeffrey took a part-time fitness coordinator position with the Lancaster Family YMCA. As he learned more about the YMCA and more about human performance, his sights turned to the YMCA as a career option. Jeffrey first became the Lancaster YMCA's full-time Physical Director in 1988 and the rest, as they say, is history. He was promoted to Senior Program Director with oversight of multiple departments and then again promoted to Director of Operations with oversight responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the YMCA. Throughout this time, Jeffrey had served in virtually every YMCA staff role while acquiring national certifications gaining senior director status.
Ironically, in Jeffrey's 18th year with the Lancaster Family YMCA and on the Lancaster Y's 150th Birthday, he was appointed as the Acting Chief Executive Officer. Exactly 30 days later, Jeffrey was offered the position as CEO. Needless to say, he accepted. His passion for health, people and community is a perfect marriage for his role as the lead staff member of one of the county's premier health and human service organizations. Jeffrey has long been an advocate for developing one's body, mind and spirit. He embodies those principles in challenging himself in physically in triathlons, marathons and wrestling tournaments (yes, at 41 years old); mentally with continuing education and learning new roles; and spiritually by challenging those around him to be the best they can be and building strong relationships. The Y builds strong kids, strong families, strong communities and, in many ways, this vision describes Jeffrey's very being.
Jeffrey and his family reside in Manheim Twp, where he remains true to his wrestling passion as an elementary wrestling coach for his alma mater. He is a graduate of Leadership Lancaster and a member of the Rotary Club of Lancaster.
